JEH Stallions Dominate Grade 1 Southern California Derby Trials
LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA - DECEMBER 1, 2007 - Perfect is a good way to describe Jess You And I's winning performance in the opening trial to the Grade 1 Southern California Derby on Friday at Los Alamitos. Trained by Jaime Gomez for Double Bar S Ranch LLC, the reigning champion 2-year-old gelding led from end to end on the way to 3/4 length win over This Snow Is Amazing.
Ridden by Alex Bautista, the gelding by FEATURE MR JESS was picking up his first win since his duel with No Secrets Here on June 21.
"We had a lot of rain but the track was in great shape," Gomez said. "The track was fast and Jess You And I liked it. This horse is sharp and he's sound. We sent him swimming for 15 days after the Super Derby and he really liked it. He came back fresh, which is only fair after he had been in the barn the whole year."
This Snow Is Amazing, a THIS SNOW IS ROYAL gelding qualified fifth for Kolleen Ledgerwood. Trained by Roberto Dominguez, and ridden by Joel Valadez, This Snow Is Amazing was bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm.
FEATURE MR JESS got a second finalist when Feature Mr Liquidity finished third in the same heat. Bred by Michael Pohl, the gelding is owned by Felix A Gonzalez and trained by Adam Farias.
