JEH STALLIONS SIRE FINALISTS TO SUNLAND'S WINTER FUTURITY AND DERBY

SUNLAND PARK, NM — DECEMBER 11-12, 2009 — THE DOWN SIDE and THIS SNOW IS ROYAL each sired a finalist on December 11th to the $224,366 Sunland Winter Futurity and TRES SEIS sired a finalist to the $50,000-added Sunland Winter Derby on December 12th.

The ten fastest qualifiers form both age groups will return December 27th to conteat the grade finals at Sunland Park.

Double Down Special returned to Sunland Park in a big way when he scored the fastest qualifying time from 76 two-year-olds who vied for the top ten spots in the Sunland Park Winter Quarter Horse Futurity(G2).

Racing for Vanessa Bartoo, Double Down Special completed the 400 yard course in :19.210 seconds while defeating fellow qualifier Corona For The Lady by 1 ¾ lengths.

John Stinebaugh saddled the bay gelding who is 2-1-1- from eight life time starts with earnings of nearly $25,000. Ridden by Salvador Martinez, Double Down Special kicked off his career last spring at Sunland Park where he won a $22,000 maiden event by 1 ¼ lengths. He then qualified and finished fourth in the West Texas Juvenile Stakes on April 8th.

After finishing third in his Ruidoso Futurity trial, failing to qualify, THE DOWN SIDE gelding bred in Texas by Bob and Jerry Gaston moved to Sunray Park where he qualified to the $40,000 Four Corners Futurity. His last start was an off-the-board effort in the June 20th final.

Evangeline Downs Futurity winner Miss Snow Royale ran her win streak to three with a one length victory in the first trial. Owned by her breeder Carlos Bejarano has been impressive in her last three starts, winning by 3 ½ , 2 and 1.

Lotsa Bang, a 3-year-old by TRES SIS posted the ninth fastest clocking from four trials to the Sunland Park Winter Derby(G2) on Saturday.

Racing for VWP, Jr., Inc., the bay gelding finished a game third to Pepper Perry and Cowgirls N Injuns. John Stinebaugh saddled with Salvador Martinez getting the riding call.
