JESSANOTHERAFFAIR DELIVERS BIG ONCE AGAIN IN PCQHRA DERBY TRIALS
LOS ALAMITOS, CA — SEPTEMBER 19, 2009 — Karen Bennett's Jessanotheraffair enhanced his reputation as a trial monster, as the gelded son of FEATURE MR JESS delivered another impressive performance in a qualifying race on Friday night at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by G.R. Carter for trainer Mike Joiner, Jessanotheraffair outdueled former track record holder Rieda Hay Worth by a head while posting the fastest qualifying time to the $176,000 PCQHRA Breeders' Derby.
Out of the First Down Dash mare First Down Affair, the brown gelding covered the 400 yards in a time of :19.49. He will now lead a field of 10 in the PCQHRA Breeders' Derby finale to be held at Los Alamitos on Friday, October 2.
The Breeders' Derby will kick off a big weekend of Quarter Horse action at the Orange County track. The $426,000 PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity will be held on Saturday, October 3 while the 5th annual Los Alamitos Equine Sale will be held on October 3-4.
Jessanotheraffair was sizzling in the third and final derby trial, as he left post number six in good form to battle the multiple Grade 1 finalist Rieda Hay Worth. The gelding and the filly battled it out from there before Jessanotheraffair pulled away late to record his third trial win at Los Alamitos from four races.
In trials, Jessanotheraffair has pretty much been lights out. He was second to eventual Ed Burke Million Futurity winner Foose in an Ed Burke trial last June before winning trials to both the PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity and the Golden State Million Futurity. In the Golden State Million trial, Jessanotheraffair defeated a field that included Tres Passes, who of course went on to win the Golden State Million with Jessanotheraffair running third. This, however, was one of Jessanotheraffair's most impressive wins. His powerful finish now makes one of the big contenders to win the Breeders' Derby next month.
Prior to this trial race, Jessanotheraffair had competed at Ruidoso Downs, where he ran against 2008 All American Derby winner Noconi and was second to One Tough Dude in an allowance race there. The Ruidoso races certainly sharpened the gelding, which has now earned $202,365 in his career. Jessanotheraffair is a graduate of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale.
