HALF-INTEREST IN ALL AMERICAN FINALIST FAVORITE CARTEL PURCHASED BY HELZER AND HUBBARD

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM — AUGUST 31, 2009 Half-interest in Favorite Cartel, who finished third in the Rainbow Futurity and is the fourth fastest qualifier to the $2,000,000 All American Futurity, has been sold for an undisclosed price.

Ruidoso Downs’ majority owner R.D. Hubbard and AQHA president Jim Helzer purchased ½ interest following his trial win from breeders' Paul Jones and Thompson Racing Inc. Hubbard and Helzer, are also co-owners of JEH Stallion Station-New Mexico division in Hondo.

The son of former Thoroughbred Horse of the Year Favorite Trick-TB is trained by Jones, the seven-time defending champion American Quarter Racing trainer.

Favorite Cartel was the fourth fastest qualifier to the All American Futurity after an impressive two-length trial win on August 20th.

He came into that race off a third place effort in the $625,000 Rainbow Futurity(G1) on July 19th. After finishing off the board in his first career start, Favorite Cartel won a Ruidoso maiden event by 1¼ lengths then won his Rainbow trial by 1¼ lengths. He is 3-0-1 in five starts this season with earnings of $59,300.

His sire, Favorite Trick-TB, earned $1.7 million with wins that included the grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile at two. The early favorite to win the 1998 Kentucky Derby(G1) has sired earners of more than $16.2 million including American Quarter Racing champion Prankster Cf ($230,013) and restricted grade 2 winner Tricky Dust ($420,481).

Favorite Cartel is the third starter out of Shenoshercorona by Corona Cartel. Her other foals are stakes winner Shescheckinumout ($90,488 to 4, 2009) and grade 1 stakes-placed Hes Regal ($72,404 to 3, 2009).

The second dam is a Special Effort half-sister to Word Champion WHOSLEAVINGWHO ($1,334,842), grade 2 winner CORONAS LEAVING YOU ($278,358), grade 3 winner WHOLELOTA DASH ($109,986), grade 1 winner BEDUINOS RUSTY ($57,695) and stakes-placed Way Down Town ($31,959).
