TRES PASSES RETURNS TO RACING QUALIFIES TO GOLDEN STATE DERBY

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — AUGUST 16, 2009 — A dream derby match-up is all set after a pair of trials saw millionaires Tres Passes and Foose advance along with fastest qualifier A Tempting Dash to what should be an outstanding Grade 1 Golden State Derby final at Los Alamitos Race Course on Saturday, August 29.

The second trial featured the highly anticipated return to action of 2008 California Horse of the Year Tres Passes, who was making his first start since winning the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity for owner Janet McKinnerney and legendary trainer Blane Schvaneveldt.

Ridden by Eddie Garcia, Tres Passes outdueled the game La Primera Del Ano Derby winner Alice K White, outfinishing the talented filly to win this trial by a head.

"He ran a good race, just like I dreamed," said a happy Schvaneveldt. "We just hope he comes back okay two weeks from now."

The start of Tres Passes' trial was delayed after Dreaming Royal became fractious in the gate before being scratched. The delay worried Schvaneveldt, but Tres Passes handled the curveball like a pro.

"When the horse flipped I got a little worried because you never know what’s going to happen from there," Schvaneveldt added. "But Tres Passes walked right back into the gate and settled in nicely. Eddie did a good job with him. He also told me that he had a lot of horse left at the end."

Bred by McKinnerney, the TRES SEIS gelding has now won four straight races and six of his last seven starts. His career earnings now stand at an impressive $1,440,065 from 10 career starts. His winning time of :19.525 was also good enough for the third fastest qualifying time.
