BRENDA BEAUTIFUL NAMED ZIA HORSE OF THE MEET

HOBBS, NM—DECEMBER 10, 2008—The precocious filly Brenda Beautiful has been named the Quarter Horse of the meet for the fall Zia Park season that concluded on Tuesday.
R.D. Hubbard’s Brenda Beautiful, a maiden at the start of the meet, is the horse of the meet for quarter horses after winning each of her three starts, including two stakes. The Paul Jones-trained miss won her maiden in her trial to the Hobbs America Futurity, won the Grade 2 futurity by a half length and then won the Grade 1, $300,000 Southwest Juvenile Championship.
In the Southwest Juvenile Championship the daughter of FEATURE MR JESS dominated a stellar field including Grade 1, $2 million All American Futurity runner-up Jet Black Patriot while setting a new Zia Park 440-yard track record.
Hubbard and Jones combined to sweep all three divisions in the open quarter horse category. Hubbard’s KETEL WON was named the older quarter horse of the meet after winning the Grade 1, $184,000 Zia Park Quarter Horse Championship. Noconi, owned by Hubbard and Johnny T.L. Jones, won the Hobbs America Derby and was named open three-year-old quarter horse of the meet.
Brenda Beautiful may be rested until the summer derby season at Ruidoso Downs, KETEL WON is preparing for the Grade 1, $400,000 The Championship at Sunland Park on December 27 and Noconi starts in the Grade 1, $750,000 Champion Of Champions on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
