FEATURE MR JESS, TRES SEIS SIRE HOBBS DERBY FINALISTS
HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 28, 2008—Two of JEH Stallion Station's leading sires, FEATURE MR JESS and TRES SEIS, each got a finalist during trials Sunday to the Grade 2, $131,000 Hobbs America Derby at Zia Park.
The Hobbs America Derby will be a stakes doubleheader with the Futurity on October 12 at Zia Park . The 10-fastest qualifiers from each set of trials will return for their respective finals. Dr Proctor has been pointed at the Hobbs America Derby by trainer Carl Draper and he impressed with a troubled win in the second trial.
The FEATURE MR JESS gelding got off to a tardy start, moved inward during the race and then rallied for a narrow win over El Sosio.
Dr Proctor has the second-fastest qualifying time of :21.336 and El Sosio checked in with the third-fastest time of :21.338 with an impressive finish. All American Derby(G1) winner Noconi was the fastest qualifier while winning the first trials
Dr Proctor was not eligible for the rich derbies at Ruidoso Downs, so he challenged older horses and responded with a win in the Higheasterjet Handicap and a second as the 11-10 favorite in the Mr Jet Moore Handicap.
R.D. Hubbard and Johnny T.L. Jones Jr.'s Three Past Six won the final of three trials, recording the fourth-fastest qualifying time of :21.426.
The third-place finisher in the 2007 Ruidoso Futurity was returning from a layoff of more than 14 months. She is a daughter of TRES SEIS. Three Past Six is trained by AQHA Racing's Champion trainer Paul Jones and ridden by Ramon Sanchez.
