THE DOWN SIDE SIRES RAINBOW FUTURITY FINALIST PB AND CRACKERS

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 3, 2008—R.D. and Shaun Hubbard’s PB And Crackers led four qualifiers into the $625,000 Rainbow Futurity (G1) from the stable of six-time national training champion Paul Jones. Jones also qualified Winners Version, Spring Bling and Inseperable.

The horses with the 10-fastest times from the 14 trials qualify to race in the Rainbow Futurity on July 20.

PB And Crackers, a gelding who Jones says looks like his sire THE DOWN SIDE, drew out to a length win with the third-fastest time of :19.579. He was one of two horses that jockey Freddie Martinez qualified for Jones.

The late-running gelding scored his first win in his second career start when he won the Ruidoso Juvenile in his previous out.

PB And Crackers is New Mexico-bred, but has found success while racing in the tougher open division.

“The open races are more interesting. We have the Rainbow and All American dreams with him,” Jones said. “The Down Side was a quality horse and 440 yards was right up his alley.” The Down Side won the Grade 1 Champion Of Champions for Jones at Los Alamitos in 2003 while racing the 440-yards in a very fast :21.19.
